Pradaxa Recall Lawyer

Pradaxa is an anticoagulant drug that is prescribed to patients with atrial fibrillation to prevent blood clots and strokes.  Unfortunately, this drug has recently been linked to a high incidence of internal bleeding and other potentially fatal injuries.

If you have suffered serious injury such as internal bleeding after taking Pradaxa for atrial fibrillation, you may be able to collect substantial compensation in a medical product liability Pradaxa lawsuit.  Contact a dangerous drug lawyer today to learn more in a free consultation.

Pradaxa Injuries

Approved by the FDA in 2010, Pradaxa (dabigatran etexilate) belongs to the class of drugs known as direct thrombin inhibitors and is used to prevent strokes and blood clots in patients who have the heart condition known as atrial fibrillation.  According to recent studies, patients who take this drug are at a 33% higher risk for heart attack or heart disease symptoms than patients taking a warfarin, a leading competitor.  Furthermore, the FDA has received a number of reports of serious Pradaxa side effect injuries, mostly linked to potentially fatal internal bleeding.  Other potential side effects include:

  • Weakness
  • Nausea
  • Kidney bleeding
  • Joint swelling
  • Joint pain
  • Internal bleeding
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Dizziness
  • Brain hemorrhage
  • Death

FDA Recall

To date, no Pradaxa recall has been issued by the FDA.  However, recently the agency released a Drug Safety Communication regarding Pradaxa, launching an investigation into post-market reports describing serious and potentially fatal bleeding events in patients who take this drug.  In the FDA review, the agency states, “(the) FDA is working to determine whether the reports of bleeding in patients taking Pradaxa are occurring more commonly than would be expected, based on observations in the large clinical trial that supported the approval of Pradaxa".
